Treason?

[ trea·son (trē'zun) n.
1. Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.

2. A betrayal of trust or confidence. ]

So at what point does a person's actions violate their innate duty to their own country? When are actions so flagrant as to Betray their country?

Clearly by normal dictionary definition, there are a lot of people committing treason now, here in the US.

Things such as deliberately making a movie that is untrue, and is then passed as a “documentary”, and which attempts to convince people to believe our country is committing atrocities would seem to cross that line.

[ doc·u·men·ta·ry (dŏk'yə-mĕn'tə-rē) adj.
Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.
A work, such as a film or television program, presenting political, social, or historical subject matter in a factual and informative manner and often consisting of actual news films or interviews accompanied by narration. ]

What about making statements that are untrue and which portray your political opponents in a nonfactual light?

What about putting your own biased opinion in a newspaper and calling it news?

What about knowingly using forged documents to try a persuade people that someone has done something they didn’t do?

EVERY day I see these acts of what appear to me to be treason being committed on a global scale. Yet NOTHING is done about it?

CNN, with its incredibly biased reporting of world events, is a prime example.

The people of the US is making a call t here, thank god, by not watching their seemingly blatant lies.

So many of the people in far left liberal camp cannot tell when they are lying, to themselves or to others, that it seems to have become de-rigueur to blatantly lie about others.

[ de ri·gueur (də rē-gœr') adj.
Required by the current fashion or custom; socially obligatory. ]

So when does freedom of speech give way to treason?

What about the false “revelation” of abuse in prison that caused the deaths of American’s worldwide from the hands of “Islamic” fundamentalists?

Where do damn lies end, and treason begin?

Seems to me we have passed point that many times in the last few years.

Seems to me, if your deliberate actions are detrimental to your country in such a way that your country is measurably harmed, you have committed treason.

I say prosecute!

Deni,

It is refreshing to read a change-of-pace topic. I think many people just want to hear about your fantasies and sex life but I quite enjoy the alternate, unknown, mystery that is you. It broadens my sense of you as much more than a blog sexpert with many more interests than sexuality. Not that I am against it but it is refreshing, nonetheless.

I think the word treason as used by you imply military/ovreseas activity and not the innumerable other examples given. It is true that at no other time in a person's life does one think about treason or treasonous actions except during wartime, especially when things aren't goin well.

When things are going well then the People and the State tend to become particularly enamored and willing and helpful. Because they know that history is on their side.

All of the other examples provided denote bias, opinion, defamation, hyperbole and bad taste. Not treason.
